26th sketchcrawl - the public

27th February morning. There were some passers by that looked at us sketching but did not stop. This man, waiting for a friend, was dusting is car for half an hour so I had enough time to capture him.

26th sketchcrawl - the sketchers

My first Sketchcrawl. It was a warm and sunny February day, the 27th. The group was composed by 8 roman sketchers (three in the drawing). We begin at 11. I have drawn for an hour or so, at the beginning I was very shy but at the end we talked a little about tecniques and showed each other what we had done. It was very nice. We decided to stay in touch and organize very sooon another informal sketchcrawl.

vineria

vineria, originally uploaded by andrea bayer.

In campo dei fiori, Rome, there is a place called Vineria, that reminds me of the 'Baccari' (popular traditional bars) in Venice, my hometown, that's why I am at ease here.
Before going home in the evening after work I pass by for a quick drink with my 'vineria' friends: english, american, dutch people and from all over Italy who live in Rome. The man portraied here with moustache is a marvellous person.

I draw a japanese man who was drawing at the restaurant. May be he was a urban sketcher?

Another place where I feel at home in Rome is a Trattoria called Lilli. It's around the corner of my office near the river Tevere and it's like eating at home. Traditional dishes from the roman cuisine, friendly owners, warm atmosphere. Another place where you can find your friends without taking appointments.

in front of the hamburg harbour, this nice man checked the cars of a parking lot. His old VW van was his shelter against the freezing wind of the afternoon.

What caught my eyes and my pen as I arrived in the city was the multiracial side of Rome.

The fishing boat was just arrived at the Travemunde harbour (10 minutes by car from Lubeck) and the fishermen were selling the catch of the day, mainly Baltic soles. The son of the fisherman was shoveling ice in the fish boxes. I bought two fishes and cooked them in the evening. They were extremely delicious.

cahos in Rome

This was my first impression of Rome as I arrived in 1997 to stay for some years (and I still do) . Porta Portese market on sunday and the everyday motorbike jam in the traffic, showed the cahotic side of the capital as it is, even worst, 12 years later.

and this is Alstertal. The river was deep black, a fantastic contrast with the white of the snow.

cold people Alstertal

that morning in Alstertal was snowy and very very cold (for me) minus 5 celsius. All the people I met had the face red as a crab apple, almost burgundy colored. Only the Swan and the snow were deep white.
these are prortraits I have taken in the foyer of schmidt tivoli teather on the repeprban-hamburg, at a restaurant on the hamburg harbour and in a big shopping center near poppelbuttel-hamburg.

hamburg private tropaquarium

this rooom was a dream. A glass wall 10 meters high in a dark room. Behind the glass big fishes as sharks, mantas, cernie, swam in a surreal and magic light

teaching in the snow

While walking in the alster valely woods we met an entire class sliding on the wood's slopes on their sledges. At a certain point the teacher called out and eveyone gathered his sledge and went back to the nearby school. What a nice way to study!
